"The work I do now is predominantly in the organic materials area where I'm worrying about either how materials degrade with time or degrade in what we call abnormal environments -- things like fire environments, very high heats. As far as degrading with time, it is just most commonly just called aging, so we worry about aging or degradation of materials and how those processes affect how the materials function in the component that they have been designed for.

And so that comes into the sort of aging reliability of -- for me in this case -- for weapons and making sure that all of the what we call the theme for the system is going to remain intact."
