Ward: "There are probably two types of satisfaction that I have had. One is, and probably it's really the lesser of the two, to sit back out in the field, maybe in your lawn chair, certainly by the campfire, and lookout at a geological feature. Perhaps it's a mountain, and say, "I have walked every part of that mountain. I have mapped it. And I understand it." That is not anywhere to say, that I am equal to that mountain that I have mastered it, but it certainly does say that I have given it my best and I know almost all of its secrets. All that I have asked of it, it has given back to me. The other thing that I think is more rewarding, is to have made a difference in people's lives, an again, those people can be some of the students that we work with, or it could be some of the professionals, or ordinary citizens that I have met, and perhaps even the most remote sense, in terms of remote sensing, it may be someone that I have never met."
