"A typical chemical
technology training program might also appeal to those who do
not want to spend 4 years getting a bachelor's degree." |
McCarty:
"Chemical technicians are a critical member of the team; that chemical
technician is fits in with the rest of the chemical engineers, chemists,
polymer scientists, and others -- as an integral member of the team --
they're at the heart of our operation day in and day out. When I say
they're very critical to our operation I don't mean just Research and
Development laboratories but all types of laboratories that are quality
assurance laboratories, process improvement laboratories, environmental
laboratories, as well as R&D laboratories."
McCarty:
"The typical person who looks for a training program in chemical
technology would be the person who is very adept with their hands they
prefer working more with their hands. Most of them also have from early
years in real love of science and you combine that love of science with
manual dexterity and you have the makings of a good chemical technician."
McCarty:
"A typical chemical technology training program might also appeal to those
who do not want to spend 4 years getting a bachelor's degree. However, I
should point out that the education of the chemical technician doesn't
stop when they enter the chemical industry -- there are all sorts of
opportunities for continued professional development. So while at a
certain point in time they may feel they don't want the four year degree
it should be understood that that's not an irreversible decision."
