Computer Engineering Technology
Computer engineering technologists work in many industries at tasks including analog and digital design, microprocessor hardware and software applications, network administration and design, and digital communications.  They may also be involved in engineering sales, support in product design and development, or technical management.  Computer Engineering Technologists have a strong  knowledge of both hardware and software and how the two interact. They may design, install, maintain, and operate computer systems as well as perform programming and systems analysis. They may be involved in robotics. They have technical knowledge in computer architecture, digital systems, and electronics, and also apply a basic understanding of computer programming languages in their work. They work for both large and small companies, and install, maintain, calibrate and repair both hardware and software systems for their customers.

Preparation
Those interested in a career in computer engineering technology should consider reviewing engineering technology programs that are accredited by ABET, Inc. However, there are many ET programs not yet accredited by ABET, so check with your local community college or university for more information. If you choose to attend a program that is not ABET accredited, you should be sure that the university is regionally accredited. Students take courses such as microprogramming and computer architecture, programming structures, differential calculus, and data communication and computer networks.
